Peasant leader Pedro “Tata Pido” Gonzales has always been a familiar face in protest actions. A respected mass leader in the Southern Tagalog region, Tata Pido survived the 1987 Mendiola massacre and a 2004 attempted murder where he was shot 9 times by suspected members of the military.
Despite his age and a damaged limb, Tata Pido continues to fight for genuine agrarian reform and justice for the victims of state atrocities. In this photo, he is seen carrying a placard of Eddie Gumanoy, also a peasant leader, who was killed along with KARAPATAN-ST Secretary General Eden Marcellana in Mindoro in 2003.
